The Local Organising Committee for the World Swimming Championship – Dubai 2010 – held its second meeting at Dubai Sports Council's premises, chaired by H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al-Sharif the Secretary General of DSC. The meeting was attended by H.E. Saeed Harib the Deputy Chairman of the Organising Committee & Member of the Executive Office of DSC / H.E. Obaid Salim Al-Shamsi the Executive Director of the Championship / H.E. Dr. Khalid Al-Zahid the Deputy Executive Director of the Championship along with other heads of the Championship’s Committees.
The Local Organising Committee reviewed the works which has been carried out by the Championship’s Committees / added some other duties for each Committee / arranged for meetings to be held with the Delegation of the International Swimming Federation on 27th & 28th Feb. 2010.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Sharif the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee & Secretary General of DSC said: “The World Swimming Championship 2010 to be hosted in Dubai next Dec. is a real challenge for the people of UAE. I am confident that the people of UAE will attain success & excellence. They have already got an international appreciation during the World Beach Soccer Cup – Dubai 2009 – and the same appreciation will be gotten during the World Swimming Championship – Dubai 2010 – thanks to their scientific & administrative abilities in addition to their great efforts”.
He added: “The members of the Local Organising Committee do their best to follow all preparatory details for hosting this Championship to be held for the first time in the Middle East. All Championship’s Committees work as one team and they carry out all duties in a proper way. Dubai will host this event to confirm that it deals with all sports games, taking into consideration that the city is currently organising an international bowling championship and will organize the World Table Tennis Championship during the next period.
Mr. Obaid Salim Al-Shamsi the Executive Director of the Championship explained his full satisfaction with respect to the progress of work for hosting the World Swimming Championship. He said: “We work daily for hosting the Championship. All Championship’s Committees do their duties as per the decided plan. The Delegation of the International Swimming Federation has also appreciated the preparation process during its latest visit to Dubai. Accordingly, the next visit for the Delegation of the International Federation will be held in more optimistic atmosphere and it will deal with the preparation process in more details”.
The meeting discussed the nomination of volunteers to work in the Championship. In this context, the door of nomination will be open for all classes of societies with their various nationalities to participate in this world event. This step will increase the local interaction with the World Swimming Championship – Dubai 2010 – taking into account that the Championship acquires a great international interaction since it will gather more than 1500 swimmers from 142 countries.
In conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sharif confirmed his full support and appreciated the great efforts exerted by the members of the Local Organising Committee for hosting this World Swimming Championship in such distinctive way that reflects the great sports status of UAE which has already succeeded in hosting biggest international sports events & forums.
