Local Organising Committee Discusses Preparations Process for Hosting World Swimming Championship

The Committee Nominates Heads for Championship's Committees and Reviews Visit of the International Federation Delegation

The Local Organising Committee of the World Swimming Championship – Dubai 2010 – held its first meeting, chaired by H.E Dr. Ahmed Al-Sharif the Secretary General of the Council. The meeting was attended by H.E Saeed Harib the Deputy Chairman of the Organising committee & member of the Executive Office of the Council / H.E. Obaid Salim Al-Shamsi the Executive Director of the Championship / H.E. Dr. Khalid Al-Zahid the Deputy Director of the Championship.

The meeting, which was held at the Council's premises, tackled latest preparations for hosting the Championship / discussed the organizational structure / nominated heads of the Championship's committees & assigned duties for each committee / authorized heads of committees to select other committees' members.

The Committee also reviewed all points, which were discussed with Mr. Mr. Cornell Marcolescu the Executive Director of the International Swimming Federation during his visit to Dubai last week.
The Championship is decided to be held – for the first time in a Gulf & Middle East city – from 15th to 19th Dec. 2010.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Sharif said: “The Local Organising Committee carries out its duties in escalating way and exerts intensive efforts to prepare all details for hosting the World Swimming Championship in such a distinctive way that the re-confirms the great sports status of Dubai & UAE in general. We have succeeded in hosting sports events & forums for the various games and thus all international federations prefer to select Dubai to host championships & events in order to ensure distinctive & splendid organizational procedures".

He added: “The Delegation of the International Swimming Federation, which visited Dubai last week, has highly appreciated Dubai & focused on “Dubai Sports Complex”. All working committees carry out their duties according to the decided plan and as per efforts exerted by the people of UAE who have enough experiences & qualifications to manage greatest sports championships & events, one of which is the Beach Soccer World Cup – Dubai 2009.

The meeting reviewed & approved the organizational structure. In this respect, H.E Mr. Jasim Ali Rajab has been nominated as Head of the Financial Committee / Mr. Ali Al-Mutawe Deputy Head for the Committee / H.E Mohammed Abdul Karim Jalfar as Head of Residence & Living Affairs Committee / H.E. Dr. Khalid Al-Zahid as Head of Public Relations & Media Committee / H.E. Khalid Abdul Rahim as Head of Inauguration, Final Ceremony & Facilities Committee / H.E. Ahmed Al-Falasi as Head of the Technical Committee / Mr. Ayman Saad as Deputy Head of the Technical Committee / Mr. Naser Aman Al-Rahama as Head of Reception & Transport Committee / Mr. Rashid Al-Kamali as Head of the Marketing Committee.

The meeting dealt with the visit of the Delegation of the International Swimming Federation to Dubai last week, chaired by Mr. Mr. Cornell Marcolescu the Executive Director of the International Swimming Federation who appreciated the preparations process for hosting the Championship and expected that Dubai will host the Championship in a distinctive & successful way. Mr. Cornell confirmed that 1400 to 1500 swimmers from more than 142 countries are expected to participate in the Championship; in fact 3000 to 3500 persons – including swimmers, coaches & administrators – are expected to arrive Dubai to participate in the event.

The Local Organising Committee of the Championship will hold meetings on 27th & 28th Feb. 2010 with the Delegation of the International Swimming Federation to be represented by the Executive Director / Marketing Director / Media Director / TV Telecasting Officer.

In the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sharif extended thanks to the Committee’s members for their efforts exerted during the last period and referred that the Committee members work as one group aiming to attain the promising objective which is to organize the Championship in such a successful way that copes with the status of UAE.
