The Delegation of the International Swimming Federation appreciated the preparations process carried out by Dubai to host the World Swimming Championships – to be held from 15th to 19th Dec. 2010 with participation of more than 130 countries. It is the first to host this great Championships in Arabian & Middle East city.
The Delegation includes Mr. Cornel Marculescu, FINA Executive Director and Mr. Peter Hall, FINA Head of Marketing. The Delegation's members explained their appreciation for the preparations process in conclusion of their visit to Dubai.
The Delegation held a meeting with H.E. Mater Al-Tayer the Deputy Chairman of DSC along with other several meetings with the Local Organising Committee of the Championships, chaired by H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al-Sharif the Secretary General of the Council / H.E. Saeed Harib the Deputy Chairman of the Committee / H.E. Obaid Al-Shamsi the Executive Director of the Championship.
The Delegation visited “Dubai Sports Complex”, the construction works of which are currently in process. The Complex includes an international swimming pool – the most advanced all over the world since it accommodates 15 thousands spectators. Journalists will shortly be informed with details of the Complex.
The project’s engineer & other officials in Dubai Municipality provided the Delegation's members – who were accompanied by H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al-Sharif the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the Championships, H.E. Obaid Salim the Executive Director of the Championships & H.E. Nasser Aman Al-Rahma the member of the Local Organising Committee – with full explanation about the progress of work in the multi-purpose Complex.
The FINA Executive Director explained his happiness with the progress of the construction works in the swimming pool & other related facilities.
It is to be mentioned that the construction process is carried out as per the planned schedule and it is decided to be completed before the commencement of the Championships.
He also expressed his pleasure with the standard of design & execution of work, which confirm the keenness of Dubai Government to construct a splendid & integrated sports facility to host the Championships, taking into consideration that the Complex along with other sports & tourist facilities will all be exploited for serving the Championships' participants & guests.
Dr. Al-Sharif emphasized to the FINA Delegation that the preparations process for hosting the Championships will be carried out as per the technical & promotional plans. He also stated that practice of swimming will be expanded via a new program – launched recently to teach more than 10 thousand children the techniques of swimming.
